I know I have run across something about this before but I can't put my finger on it. We have a 1965 806 diesel that has always made alot of noise. At first it sounds like a power steering pump whining but we are thinking that it is the hydraulics or something.

It whines all the time and RPM's have little effect on it, neither does it being cold or hot, noise is consistent. I have heard that a little noise on these tractors are normal but really it is annoying and loud, is there anything that can be done for an easy fix?

Someone told me once that I should pour some "Mystic oil treatment" in the hydraulic oil, has anyone tried or recommend this? Any thought or suggestions would sure be great, thanks again.

Without being there and hearing it, its hard to say what it could be. Hyd noise is possible but gear noise is most likely if its as loud and annoying as you say it is. I've run across one time on a 1086 TA job the pto driven gear was bad and I didn't catch it right away. When I fired it up it made a loud howling noise. The new pto drive gear didn't mesh right with the old driven gear. The teeth on the driven gear had a crown on one side like it should and a ski slope wear on the other side. So if you take the MCV off to change the gasket to the thicker one take a GOOD look at that gear, it also drives the MCV pump. Also I've always put the thicker gasket in anyway. Good luck!

I am afraid that is the same sound, happens right away when I fire her up, and warmed up or RPM's don't change it either. Will I need to drain and change hyd fluid when I take this off, and what do I expect to need for this job?

Okay, now I am showing my ignorance, again... But I am not sure as to how/what you mean when you are referring to the MCV? I know your laughing but where in the heck is that anyway??? If I knew what to take off I would try it in a heartbeat. Sorry for the stupid question, but I sure am green when it comes this area apparently. Thanks again

Forgot to mention that if you have trouble getting the MCV pump to bleed out after its all back together there is a plug on the right side of the MCV you can take out. 5/8 wrench or socket to take it out, start up the tractor till it sprays out(takes about a second or so and keep out of the way), shut it off, put the plug back in, and your back in business. I'm at work all week and don't have a computer at my apartment. I can only hit this site on the weekends when I'm at my folks.

I'm not laughing! I've turned wrenches long enough to know that not everybody is going to know what I'm talking about especially when the average person probobly don't care.
Anyway, one thing we could do if you dare and I may get shot for saying this, is either drop all the oil or take the filter out and leave the cover off, fire up the engine long enough (no more than 30 or 40 sec.) to see if the noise is still there or goes away. (No noise, hyd problem)(noise, mechanical problem)in theory. MCV is Multiple Control Valve and operates the steering, brakes, and TA. Its that glob of plates and bolts and stuff on the left side below the battery. If you take this off get a couple 5 gal. pales to catch the oil. There are 7 bolts that stay in, 4 with brass washers that hold the pump and 3 short bolts, and they are in a small oval bolt pattern. After removing this you can check the gear on the pump (make sure its still tight to the pump shaft) and you can see the gear that drives the pump. If you can't see the faces of the teeth very good take the bottom cover off and you may get a better look. You will need new gaskets and o-rings for all this. Don't forget to put the spring and white plug back in if it hasn't been eliminated. Another place to look is the hitch pump. Located in front of the rear axle housing on the left side. This pump operates the hitch and auxillary remotes. Check the gears for the same stuff and when you put it back in put the cross over tube in the pump first and slide it straight in. You'll need a 15 gal. tub to catch the oil if you go this far. Hope this will help you out and if you find the problem let me know cause it does have my curiosity and don't worry about asking any questions.

Drain the oil, replace the filter(s) first. If it still whines, all you are out is the price of the oil. My 460 does the same thing, it is completely disassembled at the moment, won't know until I get it back together again whether the new fluid and filters helped -- don't see anything else wrong. The gears in your pump could have the clearance wrong, but I'm not familiar with the 06 series.

IF THE FILTERS ARE PLUGGED IT COULD WHINE BECAUSE OF LACK OF OIL.

if the hydraylics are working right it's probably the backlash in one of the pumps. should be the mcv pump as i don't think their is any adjustment to the rear pump. get your ear close to the mcv while it's running and see if that's where it sounds like it's coming from. their is two different thickness gaskets for the mcv, you may have the thin one and need the thicker one.
