Mornin Allan, Nice lookin spread, like one of the guys from Mass said, any field over 20 acres out this way is unusual, but sure would like to visit just to see how far the dog could run before I lost site!

Just a skift, will be gone soon as the temps are supposed to climb this week :) Been nice winter overall so far(fingers crossed), I just wish I would have had a winter project like had this winter. So your IH will be done soon?

This Maryland january sunday for me was getting the 460 started and going out to take the 3 inches of snow off the driveway. My yard looks like the appalachians compared to that flatland! I bet its a breeze to run on though. No hills to slide down sideways on.

Nice looking spread. There's something about the flatlands that grow on you. We live 2 miles from the Interstate, and I can stand by the horse corral and watch the semis out on the highway. (Like they say..."You can watch your dog run away for 3 days!")

BTW...I was reading about the manure pile fire at the feed lot west of Lincoln that they have been trying to put out. Sounds like you could hang your ham on the clothesline and get it smoked for free.

Allan, Looks like a really nice High Plains, Sunday afternoon. Maybe a little on the cool side. What is that there 100 hp Westinghouse, on Row Water Corn?, Row water is major work! either out of a ditch with tubes or 8in and 10 in alum pipe.
Good looking Angus or Key-cross mommas on that grass pic. With the ever present Russian Thistle.
Always after Thankgiving we would start seeing city folks hauling one home on the top of their car to use as a Christmas tree!
You weather is beating mine today. 41 degrees, Drizzelling rain, And low overcast and fog. One would think it is almost about snow or sleet. Feels like it might. Better go now.
Later,
John A.

Hi John,

No, we only pump from 179 feet so the motor is only a 50 hp outfit. If you'll recall, two or three years ago, I was picking your brain about the 4-stage bowls? This is the pump that was in question at that time.

This land used to all be flood irrigated, but now it pushes thru a center pivot which is setting to the right, angled off and out of this picture.

600 yards due south of this pump is a second 30 hp 8" pump, which catches the second south farm via gated pipe and not shown at all in the picture.

Did you get my email about posting of the pictures? I'm really waitin' to see that 966 in her working clothes!

Allan

Allan, Yes, Thank you for the info. Thick headed me is still trying to figure it out. I don't have a camara yet, I am working of a standard 4x6 photo. We can't seem to get it to host on the YT gallery yet. But my better half will work on it tomorrow and hopefully get it done. I may hollar back if we can't get it. Thank you again!
Later,
John A.

Hey Allen,

I bet if you shot a rifle the bullet would just skid to the ground. Man, flat, you must never wear your out your truck brakes. Here is Mass, you can't see more than a mile, and that is if you're lucky and on the interstate. A big field here is 20 acres. Differeent farming but I always tell others, it all started here when the boat hit the Plymouth rock. Course that was before IH so maybe it didn't, whatever !

Hi John,

Yeah, I know. I keep tellin' people that I've never seen a bad T/A on an IH tractor. Me thinks this is the reason. :>)

On a real cold snappy January night, I can see the street lights changing at Alliance, which is 46 miles to the south. The area is called "Mirage Flats" (for good reason). :>)

Later Dude,

Allan

Hi Jon,

Don't take this personally, but this country is full of some very high-end cattle. The locals, understandably, just do not take well to hunters. :>)

Gee, we farm a couple hundred acres here in s.w. Pa and not one is level like that! Never saw a tractor that was not leaning except in the shop for an oil change. Wolfy.

Hi Wolfy,

The farmland lies on an old ocean floor seabed and the topsoil runs at least 8' deep. The grass is about 2 miles to the north of the home place and is a bit rougher.

Roosevelt and his CCC boys came in here during the depression, bought up all the land, leveled it all to grade, divided it up into 90 acre farms and sold it back to the WWII vets.

Took about a year before the farmers figured out that 90 acres just wasn't gonna cut it. That was when the bigger dogs started eatin' the little dogs. :>)
