Looked at a 1206 and 1456 yesterday for salvage. The man said they had the same engine but looking in the value built catalog I see the list the 407 in the 1456 Is that in all of them and what is the difference between the two? I'm afraid i might get an education here.

Yep, should be different, unless someone put a 407 in the 12. The 1256 had a 407, but the 14 had larger wrist pins. I believe that was the only difference between the two. I don't believe I have ever heard a complaint about the DT361 or the DT407. They will run forever. The 14 besides the engine, had heavier brakes and heavier front axle. Don't know if the rear end is the same or not, but never heard of one of either that have failed. Neighbor has a 1206 running at 195, and been running there a long time. 14s are often turned up around 200 too. Good luck, would love to have a 14 myself.

Tractor Tips (.com) shows the 1206 as having a 361, and the 1456 as having the 407.

As far as I know the 1206 had a D361 turbo engine and the 1456 used a D407 turbo engine.

Hope this helps Adam
