There are many things that can cause the problems you're describing. I highly recommend getting an I&T manual for your 340. They are more than "better than nothing', in fact, they are quite thorough--at least the one is for the 460/560 is with respect to the hydraulic system.

Start with the basics: does it have oil? Is the filter plugged? Is the pump shot? Is the pump not turning at all due to a sheared drive key? Beyond this, you'll need more guidance, and the I&T manual is valuable here.

I believe the 340 is similar to the 460 in how the hydraulics work. On our web site we have a fairly thorough repair write up on fixing our 460's hydraulics. The methods we used and what we saw should be roughly the same for the 340.

I have a 340 Farmall that after it sits for some time needs to have yhe air in the system bled off. This is perhaps your problem also. The hydraulics won't work at all. First I get the tractor fired up, then I loosen the line coming from the pump up to the hydraulic bank. With luck you will hear the pump start to pick up its prime, then simply tighten the fitting. Last year it wouldn't pick up so I loosened the fitting completely and put air pressure to the system using a blow gun on my air hose. Just put it in the filler hole on top of the trans and hold a rag around it to try and get some pressure in there. Don't expect instant results but be ready to shut the tractor down when the oil starts to flow or you'll get a bath. Once it starts pumping hook everything back up and it should work. Remember this is only a guess, but it's something you can try. Good luck PUTTER

By the way, you're going to have to be willing to learn and do your homework if you want to figure this out. Nobody's going to lead you by the hand.

Get the I&T service manual for your tractor. It's better than nothing at all, and not too expensive.

Chadmn,

I'd help you in a heartbeat if I could. I just do not know anything about your tractor, so I hesitate to comment.

Is there anything hydraulic on your tractor that does work? Is your tractor the utility or the row crop model?

Allan

Start at the back, and work your way forward. For example, nothing's coming out of the hydraulic lines, so trace them to the next component and check it.

HydrAUlics are pretty simple: Filter, pump, lines, valve, lines, outlets.

Harley, you know NIG is just doing what comes naturally for him. You said it yourself.Being a hole comes just as naturally for him as being nice does for everyone else on this forum. I personally could do without his nasty attitude. Steve.
