I had my worn fan hub bored and a brass bushing installed. The spindle shaft fits nice. I put some oil in the fill hole (less than half full) and it still runs out the back end! Whats wrong??
Will the brass bushing last with a few drops of oil once in a while?? Shaft turns real smooth.
Let me know what to do about this or should I just run it and forget it?? Thanks

I know a fellow who used one for 50 years without even knowing it needed to be oiled. It is still going but is badly worn.

What's wrong is there is probably still too much oil in the assembly. Remove the fill hole screw and turn the fan hub around until the fill hole is at the very bottom. Let the oil run out of it until it stops. There is a short standpipe on the inside of the hub to ensure enough oil is still inside when you drain off the excess like this. If oil still leaks out the back while running, try installing a proper sized "O"ring around the mounting bolt up against the back of the hub. It stopped mine from leaking.

Quoting from the Operator's Manual: "Turn the fan hub so that the oil retainer screw is to the left horizontal position. Remove the screw and fill to the level of the filler hole opening with engine oil. Now turn the fan hub so the oil hole is on the bottom, to allow the excess oil to drain off. Replace the oil retainer screw." So, if you didn't turn it to the bottom and let it drain off you have too much oil. If you did and it continues to leak, the fan will seize. The one on my C was working ok, but as part of my "restoration" I took it apart and cleaned it, and added oil. Started the tractor, went inside to let it run a while, came back out the fan had seized. Luckily I got back just in time. I replaced it with one with sealed bearings from Steel Wheel Ranch. With the oil at the proper level, you don't want any leaks.
