Can a 3point hitch be used on a Super A? Does anyone offer one so implements like a Sickle bar or rear mower could be used such as implement for a Ford 8N , or are they stickly a cultivating tractor. I'd like to use mine for some of these task.--

I've answered this question a couple of times but don't mind chiming in again. I have a '58 140, about the same as your Super A. I have a Worksaver 3 point on it and have used a 5' bushog, 6' backblade, 6' box blade, two bottom 14" plow and a 3 point rear cultivator with complete satisfaction. My stock drawbar is still in place and doesn't interfere with the 3 point. If fact I like using the 140 with the above listed implements rather than the Ford NAA they were bought for because the hydraulics are are lot easier to control and its a lot easier to steer than the Ford. As far as I am concerned its the best money have I spent on these old working antiques. Everything hooks up and works fine except the rear mounted sickle mowers because of the short PTO shaft. Only a cultivating tractor? No they will do a lot more. Just remember they do have their limits, no big stuff with the bushog and stay off the hillsides if your wheels are set in close. One other thing...the more weight you have on the rear wheels the better. Just my experience...hope this helps.

See worksaver link below. If you visit your neighborhood Tractor Supply store, you will find pieces and parts and can probably come up with your own version.

I just put a picture of my Super A 3 point hitch in the Parts & Pieces Picture Gallery. It will handle anything the tractor itself will handle. I use a bushog, 4" (16 Blade) disk, and a middlebuster on it. Since the picture was taken, I put a 4" sway bar on it and threw away the narrow one you see in the picture. The cost was under one hundred dollars.

Merlin, Just checked out your 3point-- looks like it should really do the job. Was a little hard to see the details because the photo was a little dark.. Would love to get the details and dementions from you to build one myself. If this is possible let me know. Sure their our other guys who could use this info. Thanks Jon

jons, if you give me a few days, I will take all the measurements and send them to you. I had them but lost them in a spring cleaning. I should have scaned them. If you send me your e-mail address, I will e-mail them to you when I take them.

Hi Jon,

I have a 53 Farmall and have been asking the same questions for about a year. I have gotten some responses from posts here with success stories using all sorts of implements (mowers. post-hole diggers, etc). These guys know what they're doing. I go to the local tractor dealers, FIRST THEY TELL ME IT CAN'T BE DONE and then they want to sell me some ELTRIOCARDIO-FLUX DR. Suess type welded-on modification contraptions gizmo's, but they can't seem to explain it to me or desribe it. I wish there were a place in NE VT to actually see some real life 3-pt hitch and implement success stories! Just finding a mower around here is like looking for a needle in a hayatack! I'll be glad to share anything I find out. I also have sickle bar and bottom plow to trade for a mower, if interested.

I installed a Worksaver 3 point hitch kit on a Super A. It bolted onto the rear arms nicely and fits well. So far I have used an S-tine cultivator with it and it works well.
I may be able to get you a picture of the rear of my Super A in a day or so, right now it is too d*** cold to get it started and moved!

Robbie, That would be great. Where did you get ahold of the hitch system. Thanks

I got my hitch thru an IH dealer here in Ontario, they are rep for Farm Fleet which handles hitches for Worksaver! Kinda roundabout, you should be able to get one a little more direct. Here is website for Worksaver: www.worksaver.com/product/hkit3pt.html

Mine looks pretty close to the one Merlin built for a lot less money, wish I was that handy!

Email me if you need more info and then I can send picture (when it warms up) to you.

I have a IHC 1010 balance head side mount sickle mower on ours. Works great especially for mowing under electric fences. Larry

Larry,
Can you tell me a little more about the IHC 1010 sickle mower you have mounted to your A? I have a 140 and am looking for sickle mowers. Thanks.
