Norm, boy did you get them going with that diesel question. Good thing you didn't tell them you were going to paint it green when you were done!

I always like to see things at tractor shows that show how innovative people can be . I think a diesel Super A would be interesting, and I own a Super A.

Original is not the only way to live.

a couple of years ago ,i has a D166 diesel power unit on a pump. It was a IH engine similar to a 340 engine, but the bellhousing was the same as a C123 used on a Super A or C. i sold the engine, but i thought it would have been neat to put it in a Super C tractor. Find one of those and a Super A diesel is possible.

Big Diesel: While I agree it will bolt up, you would need a Super A flywheel, then SA ring gear, will it stand torque of cranking the diesel? Then there is the problem of the 3 bolt starter from the 340. Best buy up a dozen SA torque tubes. It may indeed be possible to overcome these obstaciles.

Hugh, Shucks, are you trying to infer that it is pure folly on my part to consider building that SuperB-N-T-A-D-V?

Paul: Whether you infer or imply, I've now been up since 4:58 am EST. Only see one other partaker of the great eastern drink on deck, as of 7:10 am EST. Super B, Torque Amplifier, Diesel, High Crop, one problem I haven't worked out in my sleep, " length of narrow front, I guess one could install a single front wheel from an MV."

Paul: Wont comment tonight, our daughter and son in law arrived from Halifax. Of course in good old Maritime tradition, some east coast black rum accompanied the trek across country. Tractor page is off limits except to acknowledge I'm here.

You can get to 3.250 overbore for increased power with the right block with 3.436 lower sleeve diameter. The overbore kits can make significantly
more power.

How about a 3 cylinder diesel? Don't know what brands there are- but you might get hassled if you stuff a non- American engine in it... You would have to make a external frame because the A's engine is part of the support structure of the tractor.

I would rebuild the existing engine or find a Super A or Super C engine (same size?) to put in it.

In that the engine is part of the frame, it would be surprising if you could find an engine without adding an external frame.

The little engine can't be all that bad.

I agree. Don't butcher such a fine tractor. Everything for a full rebuild is available at reasonable costs, and last I knew some outfits still offered complete shortblocks. I suspect by the time you transplanted a diesel, you would have way, way, way more than the tractor's worth, and no one would want it if you ever decided to sell it.

Dente, unless your block casting is severley damaged, those are wet sleeve enigines and not all that difficult to rebuild.
