hello, anyone out there know why my wd6 will not stop. After switching to gas to cool the engine down and lifting the stop lever to shut down the ignition....it starts again in diesel mode. (the diesel throttle lever is in the minimum position and is adjusted correctly). I suspect a problem with the injection pump but I am not sure what part of the pump to look at. seals??? thanks

rik, maybe we need more info here. I understood you to say that you were tripping the diesel/gas lever to the diesel side to kill ignition, which it will do. Or is it as DWV says that it still keeps running on the gas side? Let us know more. I'm curious. If the problem is something other than what I thought, that's how I learn.

Someting does'nt sound right. If you move trip lever to gas side then turn switch off to mag. or coil with throttle lever off engine should die.
May be sticking foot in mouth here, but I don't
think engine would have enough compression to run on gas side even if diesel is still getting to cylinders if linkage is holding starting valves open.

Try unhooking the linkage from the lever on the injection pump and manually moving the lever to the kill position when you want to shut if off. This will tell you if it's in the linkage or in the pump itself. If it's in the linkage, you should be able to take the lever off the pump and move it one spline in the proper direction rather than messing with the adjustments on the linkage itself. If it turns out to be in the pump, let me know and I can try to scan some things out of my pump manual that deal with this.

The problem is the rack adjustment. Take the oil filler tube off the pump. looking down in the pump you will see a threaded rod with two nuts one being a lock nut. Loosen the lock nut, unhook one injector line, start on gas and back the nut out until there is no diesel going through the injector line, then tighten the locknut. This should stop diesel from flowing when running on gas.

I have a 1940 TD-9 and almost the same thing happened to me. After using it for a few hours one day, the RPM's all of a sudden just took off! It had to be turning 2,500 - 3,000 RPM !!!!! I couldn't shut her down no matter what I did. I tried to cut off the air supply.....no good. Shut the fuel line off, but these things are so efficient, that wasn't gonna stop right away either. Long story short, I finally got her stopped (not before throwing a track trying to baby her back to the barn).

Now my question is what happened and how do I go about fixing it? I had been adding a qt of transmission fluid to the last two tankfuls (per this forum) to keep the injector pump well lubricated and that seemed to work fine. I didn't add any to this tank. Is there a connection here?

This uses a Bosch pump, not an IH pump. Would a conversion to a IH pump be a simple swap or a major process?

I am honestly afraid to start her up again. I am open to any suggestions. Thanks alot, guys.

My 600 diesel did that when I first got it . The throttle lever on the injection pump has a detent ball that falls into a detent ( divot) . The purpose is to locate the idle speed on the lever. The throttle lever on the operators platform should be adjusted to have enough throw so that you can move the throttle past idle position which will kill the engine when in diesel mode. Running on gas with the throttle at idle speed would be injecting some diesel fuel which makes it smokey and maybe hard to start. Now, that detent ball is hard to see , but if you get a little oil on it , it will slide past the detent. Mine was sticky and wouldn't go past until I oiled it. Make sure you leave it in diesel mode after the engine is stopped, as this allows the "3rd valve" in the combustion chamber to cool on it's seat rather than possibly warping from being open. Also , isn't there a separate kill switch for the ignition like a gas tractor? It would do nothing in diesel operation, but would cut the ignition. My 600 has a key switch. Personally I always let the engine cool down on diesel, and shut it off without switching back to gas. It always starts fine without the benefit of being "primed" the previous time.
