Just wondering, can a trailer plow with a hydraulic lift cyclinder be used with an farmall M with just the lift-all pump? My tractor doesn"t have the Aux. remote valve. What will I need to do to be able to use a hydraulic lift on my plow?

Thanks,

Dad converted our plows to hydraulic lifts in fortys and have used letter series with plows and disc ever since. We just ran hose off liftall to one side of cylinder and put vent in other side. Never saw need for 2 way or special valve for this application. Gravity takes care of lowering plow and maximum depth was set with lever and if you occasionaly need to raise plow up a little liftall will work fine.

I agree with that, just too used to modern tractors where you can actually "bump" the trailing implement up or down with 2-way hydraulics, when I'm too lazy to set the right depth on the cylinder, or in tough spots in the field -- one ways cylinders are also adequate for that.

Hi ya Matt,

You sure can. Only thing is, if you are using a double acting cylinder, you'll have to vent off the unused side of the cylinder.

Just run a hydraulic hose up to your pump port (that street El with the darned plug in it). :>)

You can run a hose from one of the ports to the plow, the lift all uses one-way cylinders, if the plow has a 2 way you have to vent the "down" port on it. You will have better hyd control with the remote valve, or you can mount a spool valve somewhere. Someone will correct me, as I have never hooked one up, but I believe it goes something like: hose from liftall port to valve, then 1 hose from spool valve to cylinder, a 2nd hose from cylinder back to spool valve, then a 4th hose from the spool valve back to the reservoir, that is either teed into the filler neck, or tapped into the bottom of the reservoir.
