I have been trying to start my IH 504 after a rebuild but can not get fuel to injectors Here is what I have done. I bled the fuel to the pump. Eventually got fuel into the injector pump and to the return line,(after about 2 hours of cranking and charging the battery repeatedly). At first I did get fuel to the injectors but then it stoped. I took the end cap off the pump and checked the screen to make sure it was clear, it was. I also checked just to make sure the pump was turning, it was. After re-installing the cap I took off the rectangle top over the governor and made sure it was moving and also worked the fuel shut off. Both seemed ok. I turned the motor over to see if any air bubbles came up through the pump. None showed and the fuel level did not rise in the chamber.

I tried putting slight air pressure in the tank to move fuel through the pump but it did not help.

I checked the lines to the injectors and they are clear. I turned the engine with the a line off but did not see any fuel come out.

What next.

Make sure fuel is flowing to the filter, vent the fuel system again and you should have fuel available in the pump. Air is trapped in the lines between the pump and the injectors. Loosen fuel line connections at least one revolution ( or more, if needed ) at all four injectors. Turn engine with starter or by pulling, until fuel is spurting from all four lines . Tighten connections, heat glow plugs,( operator's manual says 1 min. for above freezing ,1 1/2 min. below freezing ). Engine should start. I rebuilt a 504 a few years ago and had same problem. Followed directions about venting fuel system in shop manual and operator's manual to the letter, unfortunately , no mention was made in either about need for loosening injector line connections. I cracked connections but found that they needed to be really loosened up to get air out . Weldon

roosa-master pumps can be assembled for either clockwise or counter-clockwise rotation.I dont know, which direction your 504 pump turns, but according to your post, you probably do.if you take the top off again, you should see the pump vanes and ring.if the pump turns clockwise then the ring should have ccw showing.possibly the ring is in upside down.if so it wont fill up.I hate to ask,did you turn the fuel on at the tank.

Takes a long time to bleed the injector lines. One of the easyest ways to start one is to pull it but even that can take a long time.

Last fall I did a 560d and I could not get it bled after hours of crancking, and charging the battery I decided to pull it with super m Probably took 5 minutes pulling to get all lines to shoot fuel. They can be very stubborn. It also take alot out of the starter. Just my experiance Scott
