Hi guys, Does anyone know where I can find a scematic of the inside of a delco tractor starter. I took the starter off the cub and there is a 1/4" end play in the shaft between the two end bushings. And I beleve thats what wore the drive out it was not able to go in all the way and ground the ends off the drive gear. I need to see a blown up pic so I know where washers and such go. Or maybe I Can see whats wrong. THANKS JON

Do you have the thick leather washer installed next to the commutator?

No There is a small beveled one thatkeeps it tight in the bushing. Most starters have one but I think its usally at the drive end but the shaft is smaller at the comulator end so its in the right spot. Then a washer at the other end . It is the same as the cub manual. Maybe the starter drive that was in this was not installed crectly or something. The new one will be here with UPS today just waiting to see if anything jumps out at me when it gets here. JON

jon...in the brush end of the starter there is a thrust washer that fits between the armature and the end plate. that is what cotrols the end play in the starter.hope this helps.

It has a beveled type that looks like it centers it at the brush end. I beleve most starters have this. Then it has a washer at the other end by the drive. Do you think someone forgot one at the armiture end . JON
