Super A oil pump question

Got the old SA tore down for sleves & pistons, rebuilt head, rod & main bearings. I took the oil pump off, and removed the bottom cover. The cover was warped in a coule of different directions. It looks like it's been over tightened because the bolt holes show as high spots. I straightened it best I could, and drug it across fine sandpaper on a glass plate until it's as perfectly flat as I could get it. I need a new onion skin gasket. I haven't had any luck with the search feature, but remember reading earlier about the warped covers. Anything elese I should check?

ddg, Youve got it right, sandpaper on a glass plate will give you a perfectly flat surface, that bottom plate is only pot metal and not particularly strong but works well with the pump rotors. I also use that method to flatten mt wet stones that I sharpen my chisels on. Get the new gasket and you should be good to go!

My Dad and me always used a file to flatten the cover's and we always went by feel for the clearance on the pump. If we could turn it easliy we added another gasket. My SA has 3 gaskets and my B has 1. And the SA has the same pressure. It worked for us.

It would be a good idea to replace the spring too as they can loose tension and result in low oil pressure. Your CIH dealer can still order the spring and gasket.

Make sure you have the right clearance between the faces of the gears and where the cover goes. Use a perfect flat of steel ans feeler gages. Dont know what it should be .002 .003" ????
