I have a 1942 H. While brushhogging, I nust have hit a rock. The tractor stopped. Now the only gears I have left are 5th and reverse. The tractor is very average and I am debating whether to sell as is and get something else, take it to the local vocational school and have the vo-ag class take a look or take it to the local dealer. Any idea what might have gone out and whether it's worth putting the money into. I've owned it for 10 years and have $700 into it. It's a great tractor for hauling the manure spreader. Plus, if I sell it, someone else may part it out and that's one less of these beauties left for our future.

Keep it Keep it. Do like the others said and pull cover off so you can see what you did, If worst comes too worst there are alot of H out there to get total rear in from , it is not that bad to switch the rear end if need be. You can literally roll it away and roll another on if you block it up good.

If you have reverse the lower shaft in trans is
still being turned by constantmesh gear.If you broke a gear i would think it would be the one
you were in at time of impact and other 3 forward gears driven by lower shaft would be working.I would pull shifter and look at shift rail linement. If problem not in shifter or forks you may have a broken transmission shaft. What gear were you in when it stopped? Should add it would be a strange shaft break since you have 5-th and reverse.

remove the top of the trans to get a first hand look see as to what may have gone awry. There may be an easy fix but you cannot know if you do not look.
