My water pump on my 40 model H is leaking. Have you looked at the price of rebuilt pumps lately? Is there a rebuild kit I can buy and rebuild it myself? Are there any other cheaper suggestions?

I just checked into rebuild kit for the M. IH wants over $300 for it. Not sure what all is in it. You can buy a new(or rebuilt) pump for that I think. If it is just leaking, as others said try tightening the packing gland. Failing that, get some new packing, remove the packing nut and add some new packing. I think you will have to remove the radiator, the fan driver and the fan to do that. Nothing that complicated about these pumps, and I think if you get into it, you will not find much wrong and you can fix it for not too much money, but quite a bit of time and trouble in disassembly and then putting it all back.

No kit that I know of, I just had one rebuilt at an Agco dealer, that had been an IH dealer up until IH went in with Case, the older gentleman that did the pump for me had been there since 1949, so I know it was done correctly. It cost me $106.00 to rebuild it, which included a new adjuster flange.

have you greased both zerks? the one at the bottom of the pump lubes the bearings and the one on the hub lubes the packing. your packing is leaking you might try to tighten it up.
