Goodmorning Guys, Well I finally got it in time.Found out by the old owners son that it was timed on another cylinder for over 15 years. That is why it woul not time on # 1 cylinder..... Now I have no power in 5th gear.Am having alot of smoke coming out the breather pipe behind the oil filter. Did timing the tractor the right way screw up something in the motor?? I am so discusted with it! And I thank you for all you help.. Scott

Hi Scott,

Forget the no power in fifth gear thing, it ain't a gonna have any power in fifth gear. Normal.

The smoke from the breather. A certain amount is normal; excess is not. Can be caused by one of two things: Either that engine is full of mud and needs cleaned out, or you are getting a lot of blow-by.

No, the only way fiddlin' with the timing could have hurt anything is if it was ran a long time with the timing advanced way too far under heavy load & has burned a hole in a piston.

But, if this were the case, you would have a mosquito fogger on your hands. Also, it would kick back at you when you tried to start it.
