Im wondering about a tractor ive bought im an allis chalmers nut myself but enjoy all makes of tractors i recently was given a 504 diesel, wide front row crop, It has clamshell fenders and has cast iron wheels they appear to be the same size as a john deere "A" but have the design of a case wheel, its a really small 4 cyl. diesel way to small for the size tractor its in. ive seen pictures of 504 diesels but none like mine and some friends went to the red power round up and took pictures of all of the 504s there but there was not 1 like mine if anyone has info please let me know thanks a million.

Derek: Your 504 diesel should be an IH D-188 engine. 188 cubic inches and will turn you 45 hp anytime. It is a 4 cylinder, actually just 2/3 of the 6 cylinder IH D-282 used in 560, 656, 706, TD9 new series B, etc. It should have a Rossa Master injection pump.

Be careful if ordering sleeve and piston sets. These engines have a history of sleeve breaking off at top, thus the piston sucks sleeve into crankcase. It can be piston through block, if you don't get it shut down quickly. The jury is still out on this one but some deisel guys figure it is poor quality after market sleeves.

I have a Farmall 504, but it is a gasser..... .....The gas engines were underpowered for the tractor, but I was told the Diesels were up to the job. I love mine for what I use it for. I wish sometimes it was a Diesel though, If I found a diesel for cheap I"d buy it!

Derek, Go to the Gallery's section on this website and then to the "Tractor Photo's". Search 504, you will be able to peruse several different versions of the 504 there. Happy hunting.
