I have checked several brands of "10 ply radial tires" lately and all are 4 ply tread and 2 ply sidewall with a load range E and 3042 pound load capacity at 80 psi cold. Dealers tell me they are 10 ply rated and more plies would cause the tire to run hot to the point of blowing out. Look at the writting on your trailor tires and tell us what you are using for good service on long trips. I would like a heaver tire but also want it to run cool on long trips loaded.

Buddy,Your tire man told you the truth about the heat. Go to a tire store and look at two truck tires that are the same but 4ply and 6ply. the 6ply is rated to haul less weight than the 4ply. P235/75/15-4ply and LT235/75/15-6ply You must be looking at 235/85/16 about 110.00 a tire

As long as you get the proper load rating you can run a radial or bias ply tire. There are advantages and disadvantages touted for each.
Some say for heavy transport tires a bias ply with proper load rating will handle better due to stiffer side wall vs a similar load rated radial. A radial is probably more expensive than a bias ply of same rating. The ply rating often times doesn't correspond directly to the actual number of plies used in the construction of the tire.
