Rebuilding the head on my old F-20 and searching for some good parts suppliers. I'm familiar with Rice Equipment and some of the more common parts suppliers. I just don't feel like spending almost twenty bucks for a simple valve guide. I got excited when the local NAPA guy stated he had them and ordered them for me. However, the next day he called and said his supplier no longer carries the product. He was only going to charge me less then four bucks a guide. Let me know, I'm in search for new guides, valves and springs for the head.

Hello, I live in the Dallas TX area and take all my heads to CA's autoparts and machine. They dont like to replace guides and choose to sleeve them instead with a stainless steel insert. They do a great job and have many years experiance building race car engines.

Just curious, but what kind of money do they charge you for that?

For a head that size its about $100. That includes bead blasting, magniflux, valve grinding , seat grinding, pressure test, spring shimming, guide sleeving(if needed) and resurfacing. Thats about what a standard rebuild goes for if additional parts arent needed. Ive had about 5 heads done there and am VERY satisfied each time. Theyre into old tractors and hit'n'miss motors too so theyre no strangers to the old iron.

That's a good price. The machine shops in my area will charge you $100 just for the cleaning and sleeving the guides.

I got a few valve guides from Joe Faust a few years ago, they wern't exactly like the original but cost less than I could get them elsewhere.

Nebraska,

I noticed the old NAPA ones are not an exact match either but if the ones from Faust worked then I'll give him a call. Like always, Thanks!!!
