Can someone refresh my memory. On the constant mess gear on an M,there is the drive section for 5th which the 4th/5th slider goes up onto when in 5th.Part of this section on the CM gear looks like the gears have been cut down, the rest of the same section arent. On this "uncut" part, does anything else ride on that part?Know what I mean fellers? It been so long since I had to dig deep into one I can recall.

Not for sure what you were asking, but here is a look inside my 400 trans. Pretty much the same as a M.

I assume (you know what that means)the unused part of the teeth would be for driving the belt pulley gearbox.

The drive portion of the c/m or input shaft are just little "nubbins" or little teeth. The rest of the input shaft is encountered by the countershaft only. Some of the "fifth gear nubbins" as I call them can indeed be abused down to where the transmission cannot hold fifth gear.

If I understand your question, the constant mesh gear on the input shaft, the one 4-5 slider goes INTO for 5th, where 5th slider goes in, the outside diameter has no teeth, only at the front. Nothing rides on this turned area which is outside of the internal teeth for 5th and behind the external constant mesh teeth. The actual constant mesh gear is the front countershaft gear down at the bottom.

Think you could be refering to trans. input shaft. The area to rear of teeth were 4th and 5th
sliding gear lock to input shaft should not show wear unless main or input shaft bearings are slopy.Bearing on front of main shaft is in ID of input shaft. Also check that bolt that holds yoke
on front of input shaft has'nt backed off.
