Found this tractor. What is it?

While driving in Mississippi today I spotted a yellow looking tractor that looked like a W-6 or W-9.

It has dual wheels that look like road construction tread. The front wheels were tall with solid cast rims. It is a diesel that starts on gas.

Finally found the serial number plate, it read:

MRS Special Serial# IDCP 23712 Y

It was very hard to read the serial number, not sure if the C may be a 6(ID6 tractor), but it looked like a C.

What is this thing, it had five different levers on it besides the gear shift.
Is it worth anything?

Thanks for any help you can give

MRS in reply to Cotton Picker, 01-18-2005 16:32:52
Mississippi Road Supply at Flora, Mississippi made MRS tractors during the letter series years (1940's-late 1950's) using IHC power trains as large as the UD-18 (same as TD-18 crawler). Most common size MRS during this era used the UD-14 engine. Most were used for scrapers or dirt wagons. Later models, built untill sometime in the 1970's were mostly four wheel drive units and were mostly sold to the Military along with farm and construction customers. A few years ago I had found some MRS specifications and information and posted them on this site but they have disappeared over time.

It is an ID6, these were industrial tractors. The chassie was basicly the same as a WD6 and they shared the same engine. They could be had with a type of dual rear wheel set up. The rear cast center for duals was a massive hub that mounted a tire with split rim on the inside and the same on the outside. Very heavy. They also had solid cast front wheels with neumatic tires. As I remember they had some type of slipper clutch. The slipper clutch ingaged real slow to get a very heavy load moving before they locked up. The most common use for the ID6 was air port duty.

This one is in Quitman County.

Not many people around the Greenwood, Money area have your initials. Can think of only one. Ever been to Wildwood Gin?

Good crowd for the first time there, about 55 tractors. I had 2 first places and a fourth place.

Is there a MRS tractor around Money? The one in Belen is very rough.

How's your dad doing? Hope to see all of yu'all in Cleveland.

Glad to hear about your father, maybe I will check that tractor out.

FYI, just to let you and your brother know, I left the National Cotton Council and went to work for Delta Oil Mill.

Sounds like a construction tractor from the old Mississippi Road Supply Company. I think they built a lot of IH's construction equipment under contract, back in the 50's and 60's. Wish I could tell you more. Cotton_Farmer over at Red Power has spoke of this.

You from Mississippi?

Mitch
