Do you have to drop the oil pan to replace the rear seal? If so, why?

You will have to split the tractor to get to the rear main seal for it is behind the flywheel and it is no fun job.

The rear seal carrier is held in place by a part that is partly covered by the oil pan. The gaskets for the carrier will need replacing too. That carrier is behind the flywheel so it"s no simple job. Good luck..
