This coming spring,I need to "skim" a lot of dirt(with thick grass growing on the top)and move it about 30 feet to fill in a ditch. Now here my idea, tell me what you think. I have 3 point adapters for my fast hitch. So I'm thinking of using eather a 3 point scraper box blade or a 3 point scoop. If I use the scoop will it break through the grass (puuling forward) and will my fast hitch lift it up high enough to dump it? If I use the scraper box after pulling the dirt forward and the box is full than what do I do, just lift the box up a little so as not to scrap anymore dirt( but not high enough to lose the dirt in the box, can this be done?) till I get close to the ditch, than lift it up completely and then come back around and use the back of the scraper box and push the dirt into the ditch? Thanks for the help guys!

After you have plowed up the black dirt and filled in the ditch you have just "seeded" a jillion weed seeds that were dormant in that dirt. Wait until these "new" weeds begin appearing, then roundup (Banvel works as well at a lot less money) again and then reseed.
Been there, done that.

Did something like this a few years ago with an 8N ford. I plowed first on the high area then used the blade to move it around to the low areas I wanted to fill. The plow broke up the sod and the dirt 6 or 7 inches deep so all the blade had to do was push it around. Good luck, Ed

I've used both a pond scoop and a box blade on a newer tractor with a 3 point hitch. No experience with Fast Hitch. However, here's my experience. In sod, you won't do much good with just a box blade unless you have one with rippers on it. With the rippers you can do it, but will be slow going. The pond scoop will work too, but also slow, but I think you can get the job done if you keep at it. The pond scoop will leave a pot hole landscape that will need to be smoothed out. Nearly impossible to smooth it up with the scoop, but easy with the box blade. Both of these things work best in loose dirt, gravel or sand, etc. The suggestion below to spray the sod with roundup a few weeks before you do it is a good one and will make the job easier.

Spray roundup on the sod several weeks before you need to move the dirt. With roundup you can sow new grass as the dirt you have on top of the fill will be what comes off the bottom of the cut. We roundup old sod a lot when we reseed yards.

Have used both 3pt scoop and blade on my Farmall 200. Neither the blade or the scoop will cut into good sod satisfactorally. Using the down pressure succeeds in lifting the rear of the tractor and the wheel(s) spin. A box blade with digging tines might work better, or find some way to cut up the sod first - maybe a disk. Other problem you'll find is that a scoop isn't as wide as the wheels, and after a couple passes, you've dug about all you can, so you move over, and one wheel is in the trench the other on level. Doesn't work real well. Use my box scoop mostly for hauling gravel out of gravel pit in back field to dump in driveway.

What if you just got a normal blade for the back? Then just keep pushing dirt back, 30ft aint that far. Never used a utility, so i dont know what they are capable of.

ive seen some heavy duty bow blade with scarifacers controlled by a lever.imagine they could be expensive.the cheaper type have the scariface bolted with heihts that you can set but cant be retracted.ideal for ripping sod so you get an even and level cut

i use a bucket on the front, did a small trench in the front of the soil, enough so you can get the tip of the bucket it, then just drive the tractor and ram the sod into the bucket, that is what I do
