wondering if you are going to plastigage on rebuilding. seems like extra labor to me.with the crankshaft out it can be miked.if you install a light film of lubriplate to the inserts before installingyou can move the crank front toback to make sure you dont have a bad installation or part.i always used a large screw driver.dont know about a 460 but thats how we checked the end thrust using a dial indicator.no matter whichway you go it has to be clean.keep all openings covered with a clean sheet of plastic when not working on it.also no matter which way you go pull that coil wire and spin the engine with the stsrter till you gat oil pressure.good luck with it

As you can tell by my previous posts, I plead ignorance, but the majority of people responding said to plastigage the new parts. I am retired, and not on a schedule, so the more time I take, the less money I spend, and it still gets done right, I hope. If I work too fast I'll get done too soon and have to start on one of the three other tractors waiting their turn, and I don't exactly have a mountain of money to spend. I have not gotten to the end thrust yet. It is going to be LONG time before I am ready to start this tractor. It is almost totally disassembled for painting, gasket and seal replacement etc, and I work very slowly, also spent too much time asking questions on this forum, but I don't want to mess something up. It won't be started until it is painted and reassembled. My goal is to keep things clean until that time. I appreciate your advice.

know where you are coming from on retirement.moved out here to west texas from alvi,tx about 4 yrs ago.been retired for 18 mos now.moved onto raw land and just starting to get everything set up. built a 30 by 64 ft barn but i still have doors to put on the south side. ive slowed way down to what i used to do. i have a 460lp that i use quite a bit, picked up a 55 300and i have had it running but not enough time to really get it right.also have a 49 poney with a belly mower waiting also.keep those answers comomg on the forum.interesting and informative.good luck with that 460
