If a person has the serial number of his Farmall and wants to know more about it as far as when it was born and where, is there a place (website, book, etc.) where this information can be found? Things like date of manufacture, site of manufacture, hp, etc.?

Got that, but what about the date it was made and the location of the plant. I have a 1959 McCormick Farmall 140.

Your 140 was made in Louisville, KY. By studying the link Rusty gave you, you may or may not be able to find the actual date of production. I believe Guy Fay says the people at the archives are gradually assimilating that data, at least for certain models. Otherwise, you can determine the year from the serial number, and the date the castings were made (but not the date of actual assembly) from the casting codes on mast castings, in the format month*day*year. Month and day are numbers, the year is a letter. Castings made in 1959 will have the letter E. If your tractor was assembled in early 1959 some may have a D letter, as IH did not use castings immediately.

Maybe if it was a tractor built in the last 10 years you could easily look up where and when it was made, probably down to the minute the first bolt was turned. In 1959, fuggedaboudit.
