I would like at this time to say a special thanks to Guy Fay and Ken Updike for their participation in this millionth Farmall or IH discussion. You have cleared up a lot of misconseptions. While I have never read your books, I will admit to looking for them at book supply stores. Is it a case of having to order directly from you? Living here in Canada I tend to get a bit reluctant on small orders across the border. Shipping and brokerage fees being the killer. Is there distribution for your books here in Canada? I tend to rely probably 90% on one source for books. that being a guy that attends all old iron shows. I have never seen your books, at stores here in Canada.

I do hope guys here on YT discussions have learned how very important it is to be exact when quoting someone else. We do have the right to make ourselves look as stupid or smart as we wish. I don't think we have that right with the opinion of others. I for one never get too awfully worked up over mistakes in spelling, grammar, etc., as long as the working language conveys the message intended. I do believe 75% of the people who view these discussions never get involved, and that is a shame. As you may or may not know, I never hide my e mail when posting. I get hundreds of e mails from guys we've never seen at YT, asking some technical item about their tractor. I always encourage them to get involved here at YT. Some do, I can right now think of a dozen or more regulars here at YT, whom I had e mail correspondence with for sometime before their first post. I say to the onlookers, get involved, you would discuss your tractor with your neighbor. The guys here at YT are no different, just neighbors further away from home.

One more thing Guy and Ken, I did throw a couple more questions at each of you, on the other threads.

Hugh, I want to thank you and everone else who posts on this forum. I don't speak up because I don't know beans about these things yet. I just have one Super A, and she will probably be the only one I will ever have. She is my baby and I love her. I print and save everything ya'll answer about an A or Sup.A and it is making a pretty good reference file.
Being able to read here is like being a kid in the coffee shop with all the old farmers and hearing their wisdom first hand. Actually I'm probably older than most on here, just deprived of farm or tractor knowledge cause I got started too late.
Again, Thank You All. ugly

Ugly,

Where are you located in Texas. I'm a SA guy - bought it when I was in high school south of Buffalo, NY and hauled it to Texas where I plan to retire - Cranfills Gap, about 40 miles NW of Waco. I might need a good hired hand, and you sound like a good candidate. Am going to start restoration on my SA later this year if all goes as planned.

Best regards,

Doug Kieta

Doug, I know Cranfils Gap. I used to have a deer lease just out of Iredell and worked on the Nuke plant at Glen Rose. I live in Kaufman, bout 40 miles SE of Dallas. Welcome to Texas. I'm cleaning my SA up and will repaint some but am not restoring.
I got her to use and use her I do. Picking up a few implements as I can and finaly, really enjoying my
retirement.

Your Welcome.............. in reply to Hugh MacKay, 01-11-2005 04:21:05
Glad to be of help. I usually prowl the redpowermagazine.com site. It is the place for IH.

I would suggest that those who may be IH "historically challenged" to buy the books that have been made. They contain a wealth of information and many great photos too!

If you have IH questions, ask me here or over at redpower....

Again, I'd like to say thank you to all of the people that post information on here. Seeing as I work nights all the time, I usually don't get to check in until 2 or 3 in the morning. By this time I find that the answers are often there, and I have to admit, some nights I'm too tired to bother to add much. If and when I see a post that hasn't been answered yet that I know something about, I will try to at least give them something, even if it's only a start. The most important thing is that people get the information that they are looking for, or at least headed in the right direction. It does seem that a majority of the questions are mostly answered by a few, which is a bit of a shame. All I hope is that in time, I have the knowledge that these guys have, and maybe help to answer more. Again though, I would liket o say thank you to all of the people involved, those that run the board, those that answer, and even to those that just view it. Without them, it just wouldn't be as satisfying, because, with them you know that not just one person is learning something, maybe several are, or even dozens, or who knows?

Mark

Hugh, I've seen them both at my local Tractor Supply store, so you might try there. Also, I know Amazon.com carries Guy's book, and if I remember correctly, Ken's as well.

Great comments, Hugh.

I'd bet 90% or more never post but only read.

On disagreements, we all know that no one knows it all, truly. But everyone has their own experience, and just because someone else's experience is different than ours, it does not mean that is their experience.

If each responder states their experience, the best summation of the collective body of knowledge is available for all to view.

Sometimes I answer what I think is a straight forward and complete answer to a simple question, then the next post (or one posted while I am writing mine) demonstrates there is more to it than I thought.

The good news is that everyone who posts or visits here learns something every day.

Well said Hugh. And to add a thought of my own. 99.99% of the time everybody on this board responds in a professional and respectful manner. I have found with myself that once I take the time to write something out and re-read it for typos/grammar that I have calmed down enough to tone down my message. It is nice seeing new responders on this board. As they will find out (or maybe already know) there is a lot of knowledge and experience out there. Some of it comes from training and books. An awful lot of it comes from the school of hard knocks.

And we should give a big thank you also to Kim for maintaining this board. Thank you Kim.
