I seen the questions about single wheel front ends not too many of ? Here in north central Wyo. and up in Mont. there actually are quite a few just for cultivation and ditching for row crops. Sugar beets, corn, edible beans. Handy for raking and light work too. I like them. Not many tricycle fronts, but lot of wide fronts ! Here is my Dad"s 350 LP he bought new about 1958, and sure is handy with the live power and hydraulics with fast hitch too ! Yes -- there are still a lot of single front tractors here.
Farmall power !!

Stupid question but... Is that not a propane tank on that tractor ? Do you still use it ? I know with BBQ tanks they are only good for 10 years or so, I assume for safety... How do you know that the tank on the tractor is still safe to use ? Does it also have a gas tank as well ? And finally, do they still make narrow front ended tractors ? I've never seen one, why did they stop making them ?

The dual front tricycle wheels were the exception in our collection growing up in the San Joaquin Valley of California. We had more than a dozen single front-ended tractors including JD 4010s & 4020s and an LP Farmall 350 -- all still being used on the family farm by my cousins. The single front (vegetable) configuration tractors get a lot of attention at the shows here in Texas now because in this neck of the woods, they're pretty scarce.

Like Allan said, they might be more common in the row crop parts of the state, but I've NEVER seen a single front wheel ANYTHING up here in the Sandhills of Nebraska. Not saying there isn't any, just that I've never seen one.

Around here, it was/is about an even mix of wide fronts and narrow fronts, with the wide probably having a slight edge.

Just an offhand observation, it kinda looks to me like they'd be a pain in the neck if you happend to have a flat on the front....

I have an old "C" with a single turf type wheel in the front. This is the first one other than mine that I have seen. I need to restore this particular one still, it does not run. I have a Super C that runs great though. Enjoy!!

MJD,

That is one sharp looking 350! As far as the single front wheel, I never saw a single front where I was raised in MO. The first one I saw was in Colorado after I moved out here. You can almost bet there is gonna be a single wheel at about any farm sale out here. Larry

Sharp 300!

Saw a bare bones H on skelatal (sp?) steel w/single front on E-pay. Some day I want one. Only mine must be a 39. No electric, hydro just bare H with that single wheel on steel. She will have to have the look of wet paint like your 300. Neked 39 H! A feller can have his dream.....

Hi MJD,

Nice tractor! Get a load of the 100 inchers too! Bet that old gal has lugged a beet topper in her day. There are lots of 'em still around in Idaho and Nebraska in the row crop areas.

Heck, I didn't see a real tricycle until I was 53 years old when the the kid across the road came draggin' one in here.

I thought the tricycles just came on the little rubber toy tractors. :>)

Allan - Yes, this 350 has done beets, in a beet topper job. We saved the beet tops for sheep and cattle in the fall. Later on, we used a Farmall 706 for topping, and our 856 pulling a Farmhand F-808 3 row beet digger..wow, could we fly then ! Now there are mostly 6 row harvesters with 22 inch beet rows. Sure changed a lot. I have tried to preserve our 350, only wish I could still take Dad with me to a Red Power Roundup with the tractor going along too !
Here are some of our IH back in farming days then too.....1256, 856, 706.
We now have another 856, Hydro 70 and loader, 2 Super C's, and 2 350's. Rent the land though.
