Hay yall, question. I have a 41 M. There is no knob on the gearshift. The H, 140, and the SA I grew up on all had black knobs. By looking at the gearshift there are no threads to screw a knob onto. Was this common?

Knobs are still available from your Case dealer.

The way I understand it, most gear shift knobs were rubber like the other posts said. During WW II when rubber was scarce, they put on a cast iron knob. Both my 1944 Farmall H and B have the cast knob. Roger

New knobs run $5-8 online.
As the rubber ages,it gets harder than a rock.Usually you can see cracks around the hole at the top when they have gone "Stone Age".

Farmalls in general had a push on gear knob. they were all the same on the letter series. They came off regularly and are of a nature to split and crack in half. gluing them on (gorilla glue and follow directions on bottle) will sure fix the loose problem, but it isn't the stock setup. New ones should be available from Case-IH for cheep.

The knobs are made of hard rubber. They just push onto the lever. Use a little soap or lubricant to help push it on. You can buy new knobs at numerous after market suppliers and any IH dealer. They don't cost much.
