I am looking for info on the IH 186 hydro. Is this a hydro version of a 1086? Any info would be helpful horse power etc. Also is it almost the same as a Hydro 100?? Thanks for your input!! K.W.

The 186 Hydro is the hydro version of a 986. The 186 has 104hp which is one horse less than the 986. It has a 436 non-turbo engine just like the 100 hydro. The 186 and 100 are very similiar except for the styling. The 1066 hydro had the 414 turbo engine. I think they changed to the 100 Hydro so people would quit comparing the gear drive 1066 with the Hydro 1066. I also think they went to the 436 non turbo in the 100 Hydro to limit how much horsepower some one could turn up the engine.

An H186 is very similar to a H100 but if you go to the service manual for the transmission the Hydro 100 one and older is in one section and the 186 and 3488 are in another section. I don't know if there are large differences. One difference that is not that neat if you are opperating both is that the speed control lever on the old ones goes to the right and ahead for forward while the 186 goes to the left and ahead.

KW When IH came out with the 66 series they made a 966 and 1066 hydro for a short time then just the 100 hydro. I think the 1066 with turbo was a little to much HP. Then when the 86 series came out then called the 100 hydro the 186 and should have had the 436 engine rather than the 414.

Hi KW,

Pretty sure that is the hydro version of the 986.
