Well boys,

I bit the bullet and bought a 1066, 1975, new rubber, 3800 hours, nice tin, turbo sound good and runs strong. It was just what I wanted after some flurting with a Case 1070 and some IH 786, 766 and a 966. I am sure this tractor will be in semi retirement here with me just round baling and some other small chores. I have a 504, 574 and a 584 so she fits in nice.

I do have a question. It seems the prior owner put a exhaust temp gauge on. What would that serve ? Can't say as I seen one before and I guess knowing the exhaust temp would tell you how hard she was working, right ? Is it needed or just fluff ? When I get the tractor at the farm I am sure I will have more questions but for know, I can't stop smiling. Thanks

John, ya lucky thing you!!!

Could be someone, somewhere replaced the original turbo with an aftermarket that came with that Pyro. Watch it; the harder you pull the tractor, the higher the exhaust temps.

You know, it wouldn't hurt you a bit to get us some pictures of this new beast. :>)

Well if it has a pyrometer on her i would have to say that she has had the wick turned up, and depending as to where the probe is in the exhust then there are temp. that you should not go above . If it is in the manifold BEFORE the turbo then 1150 is max if Behind the turbo in the exhust pipe then 950 max.

These pyrometers were put on tractors that were involved in heavy pulling, i.e. plowing, discing, anhydrous application etc. If you're going to hay with a 1066, you probably won't get the horse over low idle temperature and so won't hurt it 1 bit. Nice hay tractor, huh Allan. Later, Harley
