Hi,

I just wanted to THANK the men on here for the information they gave me on a battery problem. The trickle charge would not last. May be one cell problem? So I dropped it on my heavy bench about a foot drop twice. Then I placed my big charger onto it at 12E high range for about 6-8 minutes. Checked it and the voltage was 12.6E after about 3 minutes form unhooking cables. I am going to test it again after about an hour.

Bob

I can tell you from experience that a shorted cell and a battery charger don't mix. I hooked up the charger to a dead battery and when I truned the charger on, the battery exploded. Scared me and I am not afraid of much. Good thing I had glassed and old cloths on. I stuck my head under the water hose and tossed the cloths in the trash. New batterys are cheap.

In a recent post I said I did not think that dropping them would fix many batteries. I would leave the "door open" just a crack though. If the material sheded off the plate and mounded up causing the plate to short, dropping might level the mound enough for a temperary fix.

Wow! If one plate has collapsed, all thats going to do is collapse another. If the sulfation has bridged across 2 plates and shorted the battery, shaking it up might loosen it,but the battery isnt going to last anyway.Batteries are designed to fail (by their very nature),they dont last forever (some though get lucky and last a long time...with proper useage).

Hi Paul,

I don't know if it is fixed yet, it was used pretty hard by my Gravely Tractor in the winter time to throw snow. Acts like one cell not working properly. It has gotten to a point of make it or break it. Thanks for the input.

Bob
