I have an IH 574 tractor and would like to know how to bleed the system. I believe I have air in the system because of the noise that it makes, especially when it is cold.

Hi Marshall, the first indication of air in the hydraulics on that style of tractor is spongy brakes or having to pump the brakes.

How cold is cold, -20F, 0F ?

My brother uses his 495D (same hydraulics) every day to feed round bales. The hydraulics make some noise when it starts but last only a couple minutes and that is in -20F weather.

I would check your hydraulic filter and the hydraulic fuild for water or ice cyrstals. Although IH Hytran is supposed to have an anti-water agent.

I believe the noise you hear is the hydraulic fluid being forced thru the relief/bypass valve.

Good luck
