Recently sent a member of the family (my dads 1960 560 gas) to the doctor for a valve job and discovered exhaust manifold had several cracks and needed to be replaced. Shop that I sent it to says that new manifold he has available to him will require a new hole or modification of existing exhaust hole in hood. He said his manifold would cost about $160. Has anyone been down this road? Is hood modification minimal or will a completely new hole need to be cut? Haven't checked with IH dealer yet. Are new ones still available? Any idea what price for new original? Dad was called to be with Jesus about 9 months ago. He was and is a great guy who was a lifelong farmer that was so very proud of this tractor. I would greatly appreciate any info to help keep her as original as possible.

Get a pipe reducer and reduce to 2" pipe and maybe a new exhaust pipe, have done many this way.
Unless you want to go to the larger muffler.

I replaced one on the 560 about 2 years ago with one from a salvage yard (JP Salvage). I think I still have the number somewhere. It had been nicely welded. I got it for $80 and so far so good.

The reason you have to relocate the hole in the hood is because the aftermarket manifold is actually a replacement for the 706/756 gas tractors.

I just happened to be looking through an aftermarket parts catalog here the other day, and the manifolds happened to catch my eye. It lists the same manifold for the 560/706/756, and only mentions the hood modification for the 560. I also remember my dad telling me on more than one occasion that we could get a little more power out of the 560 by putting a 706 manifold on it because it had a bigger outlet pipe.

You'll probably need a bigger muffer for the aftermarket manifold too.

Give www.steelwheelranch dot com or jptractorsalvage dot com a try as both are good places to deal with for good original parts. They are mentioned on this forum quite frequently and my contacts and dealings with them have been most rewarding. Good luck but don't mess up the hood.

Before you bucher the hood you should look for a used one at local salvage yards, there were lots of gasser 560's made and a good used one should not be to hard to find. Also try posting a want add on this site you will be flooded with offers.

We have replaced three manifolds on 560 gas models and have used after market replacements on 2. We cut and angled the upright pipe back about an inch and a half then back up and didn,t have to change or even enlarge the hole in the hood at all. Just drop a new 2 inch piece down the hole through the hood and see how much offset you need to use that existing hole., weld her up and away you go. These have been on for 4 and 5 years now with no problems. Migraine

I have not dealt with a 560 for quite some time now so I really don't know about the availability of replacement manifolds but I personally would be very hesitant to butcher a good hood to allow an aftermarket replacement to fit. I think I would look for a good used manifold before going that route.
