There should be a letter code after the serial number to let you know if it came from the factory with a high drum picker already on it.

We just took off the drop boxes and front wheel off a Super M for a friend of mine. It was too dangerous for his kids to ride around on. I will check to see if he wants to sell them and for how much. They are located in Tunica, Mississippi, 30 miles south of Memphis in the Delta.

All NDS said is correct. There was is difference in gearing of factory cotton picker tractors and regular or dealer converted tractors.

My typing is in error, it should read, "there is no difference in gearing"

Bradon:

If you do not already know Harold H was with IH dealership in Mississippi Delta in heart of cotton country for years so he knows cotton pickers. Plus he has access to factory to dealership books and everthing he posts is usually verified.

There is a good chance that the picker tractor started its career as regular SM. Many were converted to picker tractor by dealer. I would think factory picker tractor would be same but have no proof. I have rear from SM factory picker tractor that I plan to pull some gears out of for my SM. Have looked at gears and everthing looks the same but have not swapped them out yet.

Actually the high drum pickers (that is what I have) got their gear reduction in bolt on drop boxes there were no internal changes. At least not on M and I assume SM. For a couple of years my Dad converted picker tractor to regular tractor after crop was picked and it ran in field with other Ms with no noticeable difference. Did not take him long to decide this was more trouble than it was worth.
