...to 'hear' y'all swappin' stories! I havent laughed so hard for...a long time! Thanks!

And, I just might learn how to fix something along the way...

IMHO I consider anyone from Western South Dakota and Western Nebraska from the 'west'. And being from Wyoming, I really believe that counts ;D

Good day to ya!
Tamara

So you'll agree eastern Nebraska is "midwest"!

I wanted to respond to your earlier post, but being a custom hay baler, I could not do anything but stare at your message in wonder, having never met a woman who likes to bale hay.

Welcome to the forum.

Everybody here is a little crazy in their own way, especially those who claim not to be.

Anything east of the Bitterroots is "back east" to me

Thats unless you are from Maine, in which case you"re "down east", not "back east".

Back East refers to anthing east of the Mississippi, where they have more rain than they need and don't appreciate it.

But I don't need a tedder either and can mow in the morning and bale in the afternoon when the heat hits.

I totally agree about a 'tedder'?! (I didnt know that was a word...) I will assume (and you know what they say about assuming...) that it is a swather... When my piece of **** broke down in the middle of haying...and I had NO idea where to start fixing a hydrostatic drive... I borrowed a neighbor's 9' mower, and got my haying done, in all honesty, in about the same time as before. Sure a swather has a wider swath, but the breakdown time (running to town 80 miles one way for parts cuts into haying time) and COST of running and repairing said piece of **** is just hard to justify for the kind of haying conditions and the acres I hay. And I had better hay in the stack when I was done. Cut in the morning, go back and rake it and in 105* 0% humidity, half ton to the acre conditions, bale it that evening. And best of all, before a thunder shower got it wet!

A tedder is something like a rake but it just fluffs up a windrow so it will dry better.

I mow with a 9 ft haybine with mechanical drive, but have been raking enough with a v-rake that I'm thinking about going back to a straight sickle mower except for johnson grass and alfalfa. Less fuel and less maintenance on the bluestem with just a sickle bar.

I'm no tmuch for progress but I do love the bolted sections and won't go back to rivets.

Tamara,

Close, a tedder is a machine that spreads newly mown hay for drying. These are used when the weather conditions don't permit the hay to cure out as soon as wanted. Normally not a problem west of the Mississippi!

Caint remember geography. Anyway the states immediatly east of the Rockies is the plains states and somewhere east of the Missouri is the midwest states.
