Hey folks, been wantin to ask for a good while. I remember a neighbor's Cub when I was a kid. It had a mowin deck of a little less than 4 ft. Probably 44 in. Now I see them advertised all the time with 5 ft. and sometime 6 ft. decks. Can this great little tractor efficiently run a deck of this size?

Doubt you've ever seen one with a 6ft deck. That would be ludicrous. Mine does okay with the Woods 5ft deck, but it does lug down pretty hard on the hills. It's a later model Cub, though, probably with the 10 or 12HP engine, not the original 8.

I've tried IH five ft 3-blade mowers on Cubs. they seem to do well on low grass but not too well when the grass gets 6" high or more.

A 4 foot bush-hog style mower takes less power, probably because of the belts on the 3-blade ones.

I run a 5 ft mower on an A.

Mine sure the heck wont.LOL Do you think she needs tearing apart?
To cold and lacking of funds to find out what is wrong . Anyone out there with a heated shop that likes to work on these darn things so much that they will pay me to let them fiddle.LOL. I guess I am pushing it now Huh.A little ways away we have trade schools that used to or maybe still does let the kids bring them in for projects. They go right through everything. But the Farming is dwindeling here in central NY and nobody much cares what the kids learn about the good old days anymore.Oh well back to the subject I would like to find a good finish mower to find out if she would run one.I have a buz saw for it maybe if I let the grass get real tall I can use that. I have a 5 foot deck (Woods L-59) on my Massey Pony, and it does a great job. The Pony is about the same HP as the Cub. I"ve seen those old 4 ft "bush hog" style decks, and I"m guessin they take more power than a 5 ft finish mower. Course, I"ve been known to be wrong alot..... Stan
