Can anyone put the top 5 or 10 numbered series IH's in order of highest production? I'd guess that a 140 is near the top of the list. 560, 1066, 1086, 656 and 706 have got to be right up there too. Mabey 300, 300 Utility, 400, 350, 350 Utility, and 450 are all up there, even though they had a short production run.

Lee Klancher's book titled "Farmall Tractors states that the Farmall H/HV production was 391,229 units. The production years were 1939-53.
The Super A had 328,347 units produced between 1947-54. This sounds like the most produced models.
I really enjoy this forum. I learn a lot from you guys. Thanks.

Not sure on the production #'s but I thought I read somewhere that the Farmall M sold the most units, then was passed by the 1086. Could be BS but thought I saw that somewhere.

The H and SH, A and SA, M and SM all went over the 1/4 million mark. C and SC come in around 170,000. Nothing else at IH ever reached the 75,000 mark. A lot of the figures on A, B, C, H and M were purely due to the length of production run. Big tractors of the 60s cut annual sales in half at all companies.

Several IHC models topped 75,000. The 10-20 was over 200,000.

F Dean: That should have been worded a bit different, as I was discussing tractors built since the letter series. I have never disagreed with IH tractors first million. One just has to look at the production numbers of those pre letter series tractors.

K.B.: Interesting numbers ejr has put down for us, and I for one, cant argue much with his numbers. Probably should hold these 5 million guys at bay until someone posts the top 50. That one will finish them off. Not hard to see why these numbers went as they did. In the heyday of the Farmall M we were probably farming more land across North America than we were in 1975, couple that with the fact a 1066 would probably acomplish 4 times as much work in a day than a Farmall M.

All farm equipment manufacturers encountered this same decline. A lot of guys get caught up in the hype that letter series Farmalls and Ford 8N were the only models to exceed the 250,000 mark. During that roughly 1940 to 1955 period Deeres total tractor production would have been very close to IH total figures. The Henry boys would have us believe they were right in there, but they basically only had one model on the go at any given time.

Maybe we should look at the figures from a point of total hp of all tractors produced by each company in a given year. Would be interesting, I'm thinking total tractor hp produced in 1950 by all companies would be quite close to 1975 figures.

Pretty small numbers compared to the 10-20! The F-14 which was produced for only two years would have make the ranking.
