I'm painting an early 966 Farmall for a friend and am having trouble finding a correct decal set. My local dealer wants $160. I thought that was a little much. Is this normal for a later model tractor or do I just need to stick with the old Ms?

By the decals individually, NOT in a set. See this page for a listing of the ones you need.....

www.cngco.com/oem.decals.html

You can get a whole set of OEM decals for $ 100 or less.

Hi Scott,

That seems a little pricey to me too and that is the price I was quoted for a '76 966 black stripe kit. 'Supposedly, the pre 1976 decal set runs about $80, which seems more in line (and also looks a heck of a lot better, to me).

Darned if I know about which vendor sells what tho. One thing about it, the dealer will always have the highest price around. Must be a prestige thing or somptin'. :>)

No, it's an overhead thing. If all you sell is decals, then you can sell them cheaper. A dealer is expected to stock every part for every tractor in existence, and 99% just sits there 99% of the time. That's a lot of money to be tied up in stock that MUST be paid for, or they go out of business.

I love how everybody accuses the dealers of money-grubbing, givin' it to ya up the keyster, etc.. My bet is that their bottom line isn't nearly as impressive as you think it is.

The set is 160.00 538273R92 that is all the decals, not just the ones on the hood, light switch, shifting, seat, mfd, and so on. And just to add if you make 28% on tractor parts you are doing good at a dealership. Auto part stores start at 100% and go up. I know we had a NAPA auto parts house for a little while.
