After removal of the head on my Farmall "A" , I noticed some small cracks in the surface deck of the block. These cracks are between two coolant holes and not anywhere near the cylinders. Is this a situation where the block is shot or does it make any difference since this area is only for coolant? Should I use some sealant when I install the head? Help!

You might want to consider having a machine shop check for other cracks that you may not see with the naked eye. They can drill and pin the cracks for a permanent repair, although, this would require decking the block’s surface.

I had the same thing and I just put a lot of sealant on it and put the head back on. No leaks. I thought that I would do this before the block replacement thing. And it was certainly a lot less expensive and less work!
