560 gears will fit. Some of the ratios are different. For instance:

1st gear (bottom) has 19 teeth. The entire countershaft has to be changed out because the gear is so small that it has to be cut into the shaft as opposed to sliding on.

No the 560 first gear slides on shaft on splines,
same shaft is used for regular first and high speed first and reverse. The gears used for high speed first in 560 are the same as standard first gears in SMTA to 450.

You are probably right on the slideable first gear on 560. I don't have my 560 book available to check. The M had a low-low first gear option that used a separate countershaft with gear cut into it.

At any rate, I beleive two ratios (1st and 3rd or 4th) are available for the 560 that weren't available at time of mfg for the SMTA-450.

One can also use a 560 ring and pinion in the earlier tractors to lower speed in all gears. I have a SMTA with the 19 tooth first gear and 560 ring and pinion. Top speed is about 11-12 MPH and first gear is exceptionally slow; slower yet using the TA. I swapped all this stuff in order to retain the proper casting date and PN on my SMTA rear frame. I installled the bigger bearings as well although the old ones would have worked.

I responded to this post because I believe the original poster is looking to make some alterations in his trans/axel. I have listed several options that he might want to consider.
