Clutch Finger Height Question

I am ready to re-assemble my Int. 504. The flywheel and pressure plate have been resurfaced and I have a remanufactured clutch. My problem is that if I adjust the finger height on the pressure plate there is no room left and the the fingers do not move. The IT manual says 2 13/64 - 2 15/64 inch high. I am measuring from the front of the pressure plate as shown in the manual. Also the cover plate height does not seem workable. I have read over the spec.s but don't see what I am missing. Any help is appreciated.

Been a long time since I adjusted a pressure plate, but if I remember correctly, I used to do them on a flat workbench. The first thing I did was to get the correct distance between the pressure plate surface that contacts the clutch and the surface where it actually bolts to the flywheel. On the B, M, and 560 there are three threaded holes in the piece that presses against the clutch, and corresponding holes in the back plate that bolts to the flywheel. Once that distance is set, then I set the finger distance.

Hope this helps.

Cap'n,

The finger height MUST be set with the clutch assembled on the flywheel.

You are checking this with the lined disc and pressure plate installed on the flywheel, right?
