The steering gear box on my 300U has a slow leak in it. I'm planing on rebuilding it sometime in the future but was wondering in the mean time if I could fill it with grease. I was thinking about putting a grease zert on the fill plug and then pumping it full. Anyone see a problem with this?

I have been using John Deere corn head lube with great success for years .It flows but is thick enough to stay put and lube the gears too.

Alot of people do that but grease doesnt flow like oil does so it doesent get into the gears like oil does..If your box is still good rebuild it now because they are hard to find and expencive.... I only do what you are talking about on fords...
