I have done everything from the schematics on this forum. Problem: Warning light doesn't come on, and the ammeter doesn't work.
Also it is hard to identify the 2 small wires, a black and brown coming from the plug.
Question: The alternator is grounded through the bracket, what difference does it make if the hood makes contact? Thank you, any help much appreciated.

Bob

The auxiliary wiring plug terminals should be clearly marked with “1” and “2” on the alternator. If the terminals are not marked, or if they are marked “R” and “F” it’s not an internally regulated alternator and it will not work wired this way.

If you DO have an internally regulated alternator, it’s wired correctly and the warning lamp stays dark the cause is either a bad alternator or a burned out bulb.

Electrically it won’t harm the alternator for it to touch the sheet metal. However over time vibration will wear a hole in the alternator frame or thru the sheet metal where they touch. Instead put a bit of padding – like a piece of rubber floor mat – between the alternator and the hood to separate them.

What kind of alternator are you using?
