Just spent 8 months rebuilding a 1935 F12. Tried to fire it up today with no luck. I don"t know what I"m doing wrong to start this. Checked everything -Timing is correct. I"m getting spark on all 4 cylinders. Cleaned and rebuilt card, double checked it today. Fuel pump is working. I"ve been using the crank. A few times I got puffs of smoke but that was it. do I need to pull start this? Any other suggestions on how to start this? Is it a carb or fuel problem? HELP PLEASE.....

You don"t say whether or not it was running before you rebuilt it. That would certainly be a place to start for those giving advice. That having been said-I have an F-12 that I rebuilt that was not running before I worked on it. I started it with great difficulty a couple of times afterward until one day it finally would not start at all. I was somewhat distraught, blaming myself for all sorts of imaginary mistakes that I imagined I might have made. In the end I bit the bullet and sent in my magneto for a rebuild. (for some reason I can"t define I was hesistant at first to do so) When I got it back and put it on, I think I got it to start on the first pull once it had been primed, and it still starts with ease.

I may take some flack for this story, but one time after that I uncovered it and got was getting it ready to start. My little boy gleefully began playing on it. I had gone down stairs to put a few things away and came back outside. Upon my return--Son nowhere in sight, one less thing to worry about. Time to start her up! I proceeded set the levers and crank. It started once again all right on the first pull, and to my astonishment began to roll forward at me and out of the garage. My young son had left it in gear much to my surprise. Nothing bad ensued to me or the tractor but it reenforced in my mind both the neccessity of double checking such things and the fact that after the magneto had been rebuilt it started with such ease that it even started while in gear with a simple half pull on the crank.

If you"re having a that much trouble with it, my advice is to get your magneto rebuilt. I dealt with Mainely Magneetos in Maine and would certainly recommend his work to anyone. His number is 207834 7309.

I'm using champion plugs that I got from Rice's.

After about 4 hours of fiddling around, I've only gotten 2 puffs of smoke. Have I flooded the thing? I pulled the plugs off, but they were dry, so I'm thinking its not flooded.????

Of all the handcrankers I have had,my F14 is the most stubborn to get running.Like my great granpappy said once,"I cranked her so much dhe ran hot!" I cranked on it for two hours one day and got extremely tired of it.My bro pulled me about 10 ft and it was running!

ya, I'd pull it. the fuel seems to work down and they tend to be hard to start if not used frequently

My F14 takes a lot of cranking if it has set for more than a couple of weeks. I've found mine starts better with hotter plugs - what have you got in yours.

Also when I first got my tractor the fuel line was almost pluged with rust. I could get some fuel but often it wasn't enough to keep the tractor running.

With mine I have to have the throttle set all the way in otherwise it'll flood. I set the manifold to the middle setting. Half way on the mag, and use half turns. When I start hearing oil moving in the air filter it's getting ready to fire. I don't use priming strokes, just floods mine. GOOD LUCK.

Cranking and using the fuel pump to get gas to the carb is doing it the hard way. To prime the carb just take the brass vent nut off and pour gas in the stand pipe. It is connected to and setting above the carb. Stand pipe is about four inches high and sits on top of the hood.
