Couldnt find anyone that made a replacement steering wheel for a 300U,so I took an older keyed hub wheel and cut off the hub,cut the splined hub off the old original 300U wheel and then welded the two back together. The original 300U hub had holes where the old spokes would actually engage the hub fully, the replacement early wheel hub had no such feature and were welded to the face of the hub.I pieced in extra 1/2" material so the new extended spokes would fully insert the hub. Here's how it looks with some new paint after all the cutting/welding/sanding.Works great too!
Even the old hub nut needed work...the tin cover was dented in.I hammered that back out and sanded the surface smooth once again.

Where do you live Paul? I'm working on a 300U myself. I need to fix the brakes yet and put lights on it. Where are your light mounted? I can see them in the picture but can't tell for sure. Mine has a loaded on it too. I live in Southern Wisconsin by Blanchardville.

I'm in New England.Hence the reasoning behind the bucket loader.....snow.However,we sure havent gotten much yet.
The two rubber housed PAR46 work lights are clamped around the crossbar that is right near the gas cap. These were on there when I bought it,and once wired they work...so,I guess I will leave them there. The headlights arent stock at all (new ones on order),and there is a PAR36 work light at the rear with a small red running light under it.I plan to add a courtesy light to the dash so I can illuminate the toggle switches, and cigarette lighter too.

The brakes are easy fixes, there is a large round cover that houses the brake discs off the pedals.

It is sad that there is such a limited use steering wheel used on the 300U. I had 2 NOS wheels a few years ago, and they were gone in a matter of hours. Since then, I generally tell customers to have their old wheels recovered (if in good enough shape). Your conversion looks great.

Here's a bit of when the old wheel was still on.The big pile of weld can be seen,as well as the silver paint one of the previous owners seemed to love as a "two tone" color all over the rig.

I would have went with the recovering route however there was some seriously botched up rewelding done to the spokes of the old wheel (one spoke broke loose amidst all that puddle of welding blob). When I cut the old hub off,I found that one spoke was cut off squarely, and very rusty, indicating the huge blob of weld never penetrated the spoke whatsoever. One would think a big pile of weld would be strong, but when it never melts the parent metal, its not strong at all.
