If the 1086 is a late model tractor it will fit (you can turn the PTO shaft with the engine shut off or the control valve pushes in when the PTO is turned on). If the 1086 has the early type PTO the best way to put the PTO in to the 1586 is to take the rear cover and the PTO shafts out of the 1086 and put them onto the main body of the 1586. I have done a lot of these conversions

I just installed a dual speed into a 1566, should be the same situation except for the control linkage. You must swap the nose (input shaft & pump held on by 4 bolts 3/8). On the 1566 I used a cab type control linkage from a 1066. The 86 series is different and I'm not shure what has to be done, you may have to change out the linkage from any 86 series smaller tractors.

The PTO unit will bolt right in. trulyred's got it right on the input shaft/pump. The linkage is the thing that I was questioning, too. I seem to remember that on 06-66 tractors, the linkage pulls the PTO valve up to engage the PTO, while on an 86, the linkage pushes the valve down to engage the PTO. This change could have come in to effect sometime during the 86 series, so just keep it in mind.
