Painted my Farmall C. Was putting the belts back on the fan, crank pulley and water pump. Slid the fan upwards to tighten the belt. Seems like the fan has a slight wobble. Seems to have more wobble in the back of the fan assembly. CAN ANYONE TELL ME WHAT IS IN THE FAN ASSEMBLY? How does it come apart? What should I look for??? Thank you. andy

It is a sleeve bearing, metal-on-metal. The hub has a little plug screw so oil can be added once in a while, but often it's not!

There are replacment fan hubs on the market with permanently lubed ball bearings.

Thanks .... So, maybe I am ok. Probably shouldn't put too much pressure on the belt. Also, I guess since it is a sleeve it will not fail all of a sudden. I do see the little screw that is for oiling.

You are right, run the belt as loose as possible.

The oil screw has a standpipe inside. Fill it with oil and turn it down to let the excess run out.

They will fail all at once. I did the same thing. Just finished my Super C. Oiled the fan, even though it had made no noise or showed any sign of being bad. It locked up all at once on me a long way from the house. Bought a new one for about $60 and had no troubles.
