My 300 utility steers very hard. The front end is not seized. When the steering box is disconected from the drag links the box turns freely. Any suggestions?

Paul, there's a fill/check plug on left side of steering box.Holds 1 1/4 pint of 80 or 90 wt.

Had the same problem. Then finally it broke. I found a used box from a 300 or 350 and swapped it out. Seems like there is an adjustment screw with a stop nut on one or both sides that puts tension on the gears/shafts somehow. You might try playing with that. Got fluid in the box? Mine leaks so went to 80-90 to help slow the flow. Gus

Boy oh boy I really loved my 300 utility what a perfect tractor except it does have a weak link the steering box and with a loader and no power steering what a bummer ...Start looking for a power steering box for it and save your money I tried one half year to find a good used manual box and never could ..Hope you have better luck than I did.. Lots of power, Fast hitch,Ta,east on and off , What could be better....

Do your front spindles turn easy when your tie rods are disconnected? Under each spindle steering arm there is a lock ring. If this is broken or missing and the top nut is to tight it will turn hard. If the nut is to tight it won't turn at all.
