I read that 300 series tractors came with optional hub caps.I would imagine these must be moon-type/dog dish covers for the center of the wheel (to cover up the lug area)?? I also wonder if the Utility series also could have been ordered with them, and if they are still being (repro) produced?

I believe that's a rumor, they certainly weren't from IH. What possible purpose would they serve?

I think I made an error....the "hubcaps" that I came across were actually the bearing covers for the front wheels (not a decorative item) that were made of different steels.
Although you'd think somebody would have offered some "dress up" wheel covers....seeing as how you could buy them for practically everything (including compact lawn/garden tractors)....but I admit, the sight of chrome moon covers being affixed to something with zero chrome to begin with would look rather odd.

About the only chrome I can stand to look at, that is not factory, is a chrome exhaust stack, and I got deaf enough listening to the standard muffler. Custom tractors, I don't like.

Chrome hub caps for the front wheels big enough to cover the lugs wouldn't look to bad if you had full wheel covers for the rears! You could start with the covers that were on self feeders for hogs they would be about the right size and shape. Add a chrome pipe and you would be parade ready! Maybe someone with a good picture program could provide us with an illustration of what this would look like. Bring it on, Dick Davis
