Have had trouble with steering and clutch when cold. Was told to change the hyd. filter. Now the bucket is jerky when going up. I pulled the filter and ran with out one to see if that made a difference. It did a little. But still is not quite right.

I had the same problem with my 806 (except my loader sits on a D17, and I'll thank you all to make no cheap shots about the AC being a problem all on it's own) and the head wrench at the local dealer advised the 5 gallon overfill, blaming an o-ring on the pickup. Seemed to do the job.

Running with out a filter was not a good idea if there was any pices floating around in the hdy . and i am sure that there was they now have found there way into places that you are going to hate yourself for . Change you oil and replace the filter as many times as it takes to clean things up and if ya have to change the oil a couple more times and if you don't run this tractor long enough to get it realy warmed up and it sets in a cold building this porblem will raise it's ugly head a lot. You may also need to go thru the MCV valve body and install a new spring kit and MCV pump. When it come to the 06 seires thru the 86 seires i have had every nut and bolt out of them . There is a double filter kit that is offered buy BMD i think or was it Allied that has a bigger cover assy. that lets you stack two filters , now i have never used any but there saleman tryed to get me to buy from them but i was already sellen for someone else.

Just how cold is it lately? Some stiffness of the steering and slow hydraulics is to be expected during cold weather, but if you think that it is worse than it should be, might be a good idea to drain and change the Hy-Tran. Probably has moisture in it. After changing the filter, cycle all hydraulic functions- steering, rockshaft, aux. valves, brakes, and TA several times each to bleed the air out (steering all the way left and all the way right will help the most here).

I have cycled all the systems numerous times. The steering is fine now. But the bucket is jerky. I did not have trouble with the bucket until I changed the filter. Is it possible the pump is going bad.

Have you run the loader all the way up and down? Have you double checked the fluid level? It dosen't hurt to be five gallons overfull, in fact, IH reccomended it. You'll need to get someone with a flow-rater to check it out to determine if the pump is going out before spending $600 on a new one, but if this trouble with the loader came on right after changing the filter, then you've still got air. If the pump was shot, it would actually work better with cold, thick oil.

Make sure the metal baffle in the transmission that the filter goes against is tight. If its loose the pump can suck air and cause many of the problems you are having.

How does a person develope a problem with air by just changing the filter. It appears to me that is what the problem is. Yes I have ran the bucket all the way up and down many many times. And I appreciate your help.

My thinking is that the oil is so thick and cold that it is taking longer than normal to bleed. This is a long shot, but there is a short suction tube between the filter and the pump. There is a seal between the outside of this tube and the cast filter area. Possible the tube got slid while you were changing the filter and rolled the seal. Overfilling it five gallons would cover the tube and the leaky seal would suck oil instead of air.
