Crazy question....how does one remove the generator/alternator belt on a 300U? Its behind the waterpump/crank belt and that one looks to be a bear to remove (split pulley arrangement I know)...I need to put on a shorter belt for the alternator conversion but I dont look forward to tearing the whole front end off to get to it.What a crazy place to put that one....it should have been mounted forward..would have made replacement far easier.

Woodworker supply catalogs list a segmented belt that works perfect in this situation. I put one on my 350U 6 years ago, and it's still working fine. Extra nice to be able to take a link out if it stretches. THere's not much room under that hood for the alternator to swing out to tighten it.

I am not familiar with a 300 but on my M, I was able to flip the generator bracket to make the alternator work with the existing belt. (I was about to go to all the work of removing the fan belt when I discovered this.) Hope it works for you.

Sounds like you already know what you have to do. Go ahead and bite the bullet, if the nut on split-pulley is not stuck it won't be that bad. It would have been nice if gen. belt were in front.
